Our Approach

We believe that real change starts by strengthening what already works.

We don’t run our programs, launch pilot projects or open competitive funding rounds.  Instead, we focus our energy and resources on identifying trusted, high-impact organisations that are already making a difference in the lives of children with disabilities across Nigeria. These are the partners rooted in their communities, already delivering results, often with very little support. Our role is to help them grow, deepen their impact, and shift the system around them.

We do this through three core strategies:

Funding What’s Proven

We provide project-based grants to local organisations delivering assistive technology (like wheelchairs, hearing aids, and communication devices) and community-based rehabilitation services. These partners often operate in under-resourced areas, yet achieve powerful results. Our funding is designed to be catalytic, not just to sustain their work, but to help them scale it.

Supporting

Long-Term Growth

Our support goes beyond money. We help organisations strengthen their internal systems, leadership and strategic direction. Whether it’s improving monitoring practices, building financial systems, or growing their visibility, our goal is to help partners stand stronger and last longer.

Focusing on Outcomes

Every grant is tied to clear goals. We track the numbers, how many children received support and how many devices were distributed, but we also care about what those numbers mean. Did children regain mobility? Return to school? Express themselves more confidently? That’s the change we’re here to support.

At REF, our approach is relational, not transactional. We build trust before we write cheques. And funding should be a tool for transformation, not just an activity.
